At VN Horizons, we believe that lifelong learning is a key concept in living a meaningful life. We strive to provide high-quality community membership initiatives that empower each and every one of our members to allow them to realise their potential. We aspire to learn and inspire others to do so.

At VN Horizons, we believe that Clinical Supervisors, as clinical assessors, are dual professionals and should be recognised and trained as such.
VN Horizons will work with regulators, representative organisations and experts to influence:

VN Horizons recognise the difficulty potential veterinary nurses have to get a foot in the door to a general or Training Practice (TP).
For training practices that have decided not to accept work experience students, the enquiries are burdensome.
For those that do accept them, the applications do not always consider their logistics, have limited CV or cover letter writing guidance, leading to the onerous task of responding.
VN Horizons will work with training providers and practices to offer advice and resources to encourage them to consider giving someone their wings in the industry.

VN Horizons have experienced many student veterinary nurses completing their learner journey with the perception that their Training Practice (TP) represents the whole industry.
Where educators can facilitate experiential learning, inviting anecdotal discussion for learners, many may never step foot in a hospital, a referral practice or experience out of hours emergency care.
VN Horizons want to encourage and support all to 'step outside their bubble', to 'broaden their horizons', to observe and explore the wider industry.
VN Horizons will work with the regulator, training providers and TPs to welcome, support and facilitate student exchanges in veterinary nursing, whether this be TP to TP and/or training provider to training provider, supporting schemes of work.

VN Horizons seeks to improve the way the industry considers, discusses and promotes continued professional development (CPD) and Professional Learning (PL).
CPD is often seen as a box ticking exercise for meeting RCVS requirements in quantity, VN Horizons want to switch the focus on the quality and impact of CPD. Meaningful CPD requires careful seeking and planning.
CPD is often externally motivated, structured and focussed. As dual professionals, it is often observed as a set agenda for everyone, to meet organisational targets, whether in clinical practice or education institutions. Whether it is meaningful is subjective.
PL on the other hand, is internally motivated, it is meaningful to the individual and their practise. It requires self-direction and exploration that encourages collaboration and promotes reflective practice.
